Tau arrives in South Orange.
More Specialized Transport, riggers specializing in fine art, deliver Tau to Meadowland Park in two pieces on a flatbed trailer. The sculpture is wrapped in layers of felt, blankets and plastic to protect the matte black painted finish. The wrapping will only be removed when the installation is complete.
The bottom section of Tau is lifted by crane and suspended over the stainless steel bolts extending up from the top of the footing. The riggers work with the crane operator to keep the base level as they lower it onto the bolts. A view of the interior of the sculpture’s base shows one of the bolts coming up through the flange at the bottom of the piece. The top section is lowered into place, with one of the riggers remaining inside to bolt the two sections together – note the incredibly smooth, virtually seamless connection between the top and bottom pieces. Once all the work of the installation is complete, the protective wrapping is removed.
