SonnenHaus Village • TerraHaus
Unity College, in rural Unity, Maine, is a small liberal arts college emphasizing education in environmental studies and natural resources. AKD has teamed with GO Logic LLC to design what is on track to be the first Passive House Certified student residential hall on the campus of any US college or university. The proposed SonnenHaus Village will be a group of three 10-person residential halls to be built in phases, with the first building, TerraHaus, scheduled to be completed and occupied by the start of the Fall 2011 semester. Working closely with Unity’s staff, faculty and students and GO Logic LLC, AKD has developed a Site Plan integrating the three residential buildings within the existing campus and proposing a sustainable, ecologically based landscape model for student residential life.
