Celebration Barn Theater South Paris, Maine Design Team: GO Logic, LLC (architecture), AKD, Thomas Fowler P.E. (civil) MASTER PLAN / SITE PLANNING

Celebration Barn Theater, established in 1972, has a rich history of providing unique physical theater education and workshop experiences during the summer season. The theater is housed in a 1902 horse barn. The surrounding 11-acre site, with its undulating topography and diverse ecological features, provides a variety of break-out rehearsal and meditative spaces.

The shapes and contours of formerly productive fields and orchards are still visible, though softened by time and the inexorable successional shift in plant communities that takes place when the annual cycle of farm work stops. AKD developed proposals integrating new buildings and programming within the existing landscape spatial structure to minimize disturbance and construction costs. In addition, AKD provided a landscape management framework, prioritizing a list of specific tasks to help CBT care for critical areas and maintain access to pathways and open spaces.
