MASTER PLAN / SITE PLANNING / LANDSCAPE DESIGN

Wolfe’s Neck Center, a beautiful 626-acre saltwater farm on the shores of Casco Bay, is an established leader in sustainable agriculture education and farmer training. AKD, GO Logic and Thomas Fowler, P.E. collaborated on a phased master planning process to integrate the Wolfe's Neck’s extensive educational and recreational programming with the working farm operations while preserving the site’s stunning natural resources.

The Phase 1 Master Plan concentrates the WNC’s programming activities in a new campus at the Little River Farmstead. The Little River Campus proposal seeks to promote synergy among different programs, creating opportunities for unstructured experiential education and productive, serendipitous interactions among visitors and staff. Whether through physical juxtaposition, shared facilities and infrastructure or overlapping circulation systems, these moments of intersection among the different programs will help create a singular identity for WNC that encompasses both the breadth of its mission and the depth of its resources and opportunities.

The Phase 2 Master Plan expands the footprint of the Little River Campus to incorporate a new Dairy Barn and Farmer Training Facility. During this second phase, an in-depth analysis of the site’s physical constraints (wetlands, soils, waste management) and land-use restrictions further refined the site plan and helped the Client prioritize construction and fundraising goals.
